Coordinated efforts involving industry, academia, government and research organizations are vital to striking the right balance between economic growth and decarbonization measures. The overall global investment in cleantech crossed 1 trillion USD in 2023, underscoring the urgency at the global level in achieving net-zero emissions. On the other hand, the projected annual investment required to develop low-carbon and renewable energy technologies to attain global net-zero emissions by 2050 is 4 - 5 trillion USD. This transition has the potential to create millions of new jobs, opening up new avenues for economic development, especially in developing nations like India.

India emits 2.9 Gt of CO(4.9% of global emissions) annually as the world's third largest emitter. Power, automotive, aviation, steel, cement and agriculture are the major sectors contributing to around 70% of India's overall emissions. Considering the fact that the same industries contribute significantly to the economy, India has to carefully formulate and balance its economic growth plan and carbon reduction strategies to achieve its net zero goal by 2070. The Global Conference on Decarbonizing India (GCDI) provides a platform for various stakeholders to discuss challenges and technological solutions in achieving decarbonization with minimum impact on the economy, employment scenario etc.

Inspired by the success of the inaugural edition of GCDI in Dec'23 held at PSG College of Technology Coimbatore, two multidisciplinary centers at National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC), viz. the Centre for Clean Energy and Circular Economy (CCECE) and the Centre for Sustainable Technologies (CST), are jointly organizing the second edition of the conference (GCDI'25) during 6 - 8 March 2025. NITC is an Institution of National Importance, ranked 25
in Engineering and 3    in Architecture and Planning in the NIRF ranking 2024.

GCDI'25 will feature sessions by more than 30 experts from leading universities and industries across the world. The expected total number of participants and visitors is around 500. Another highlight of GCDI'25 will be an industry exhibition, titled Conclave. It will be a platform for leading industries with focus on clean technologies to showcase their action plans, strategies and new technologies towards carbon reduction, thus facilitating the conference participants to gain first-hand knowledge of the state-of-the-art in this domain. The exhibition will set the tone for subsequent events such as the academia-industry interaction session (Sammelan) and the conference itself.
